Our aim is that in all aspects of our business will be carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner. We are fortunate to be in a beautiful area with excellent quality drinking water and an abundance of wildlife all around us. We don't want to damage that in any way and are making every effort to be as 'green' as we can. It may take us some time to reach our goal as the necessary technology required needs investment which we will need to work hard to pay for. In the meantime we do our best by making the changes that we can to protect the environment.
We use eco washing powder and try to avoid the use of chemicals as much as possible.
If you are staying with us please help by using the re-cycling bins etc.
We endeavour to purchase only local, ideally free range and organic produce. We had our own free range hens until the fox came along and helped himself. We plan to get a more secure enclosure built and will try again as the taste of our own eggs and the fun of watching the hens was hard to beat. Tony is doing a horticulture course and hopes to grow our own produce. We have tried to do so but potato blight and lack of knowledge hindered our efforts but we are will keep trying. We have a selection of herbs growing well and tomatoes etc. but by next year we should be growing much more.
We are hoping to replace our inefficient gas boiler with a boiler that uses a renewable source of fuel eg wood pellets or logs. We also hope to heat our water for showers, laundry etc. by using solar power and we would love eventually if we could have our own wind turbine. In the meantime we do our best to reduce our carbon footprint and hope that all our visitors to Lakeside will also do their bit to tread as lightly as we can on this beautiful part of the world.
