Arvagh is a scenic town uniquely situated in the centre of the Drumlin belt. Nearby Bruce mountain is a small hill with is crowned with three stone cairns, dating from the Neolithic period (c.2000 BC) Arvagh is in County Cavan but lies on the border of Longford and Leitrim and is famous as the town where the three provinces of Ulster, Leinster and Connacht meet.
Arvagh International Fishing Festival. The area is popular with anglers and the lakes such as Hollybank, Gowna, Gulladoo and Rockfield offer excellent fishing all year round. There are several pubs in the town, many of which have live music at the weekends. The Breffni Arms Hotel is fully equiped with a restaurant, bar , nightclub, gym and swimming pool.
The Annual Brefni Challenge -The Breffni 20 K will take place every year on Saturday of August the Bank Holiday Cavan or the shorter distance 13K from Ballinagh to Arvagh The homecoming in Arvagh for runners, walkers of cyclists includes Food, Massage, Music and fun galore. The main beneficiary will be St Luke?s Hospital, Dublin while the Oncology Unit in Cavan General Hospital and N.B.C.R.I. will also receive generous support. There is a real festival atmosphere in the town that Saturday. There is usually a marquee in the town square and a pig roasting on a spit for a buffet lunch- all proceeds going to the Hospital fund. Famous People From Arvagh
William H. Bleakley (1888?1929), born in Arvagh, went to America in 1905. He was a pioneer of aviation and was the first to perform the aerobatic feat of looping the loop.He attempted to set an altitude record in 1928 and crashed and died in 1929.
Siva Kaneswaran (1988-), member of British/Irish boyband The Wanted, he was born in Dublin and moved to Arvagh as a teenager.
